MEET STEPHEN WEBBER
FROM HERE. FOR HERE.
A LIFELONG COLUMBIAN
Stephen grew up in Boone County, raised by parents who work at the University of Missouri. He played soccer at Cosmo Park on Saturday mornings and attended Boy Scout Troop 707 meetings at Calvary Episcopal Church. He has always been active in his community – two of his proudest accomplishments were earning the distinction of Eagle Scout from his Boy Scout Troop and being selected to represent Missouri at American Legion Boys Nation while attending Hickman High School. As a graduate of Hickman High School and the son of parents in education, Stephen has a strong commitment to our local schools and public education.
After his graduation from Hickman in 2001, Stephen went on to pursue a degree in Economics at Saint Louis University. During his freshman year, he became active in Americorp’s JumpStart program, where he worked with disabled preschoolers in St. Louis. The experience reinforced in Stephen that not all Missourians are being given the same opportunities to succeed and shaped his commitment to education for all of our state’s children. Stephen also attended the University of Missouri School of Law, graduating with his JD degree in 2013, and is a licensed attorney in the state of Missouri.
Stephen is a member of Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America and the American Legion. In his free time, he enjoys running on the MKT trail and getting together with friends at the most respected of Columbia’s institutions, Shakespeare’s Pizza.
A COMBAT VETERAN
Unites States Marine Corps (Iraq 2004, 2006-2007)
Stephen has always had a strong sense of duty, which compelled him to serve our nation by enlisting in the Marine Corps while in college. While still in school, Stephen’s reserve infantry battalion was activated and sent to the middle of the Sunni triangle, only a year after he enlisted. Stephen returned to school after serving in Iraq and completed his degree in economics.
Stephen graduated from college in 2006 and volunteered to return to Iraq. During his second tour Stephen led an infantry squad of 12 Marines in the city of Fallujah. Although he disagreed with the war, he felt he had an obligation to use his experience to lead his fellow Marines through the difficulties ahead. When he returned home, Stephen received a promotion to Sergeant and was honorably discharged. His experience in Iraq reinforced his commitment to public service and fostered a desire to come home and make Mid-Missouri an even better place to live.
A CAREER OF SERVICE
United States Senate Aide, State Representative
After serving his country in Iraq, Stephen moved to Washington, D.C to serve the people of Missouri as an aide to U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill. In Washington, Stephen found himself in a unique position to immerse himself in the legislative process and hear from constituents about the issues impacting our state.
As a State Representative, Stephen’s goal is simple: work with anyone who wants to make the community better, regardless of party. Stephen has reached across the aisle to make college more affordable, increase job training, support middle-class families, and ensure access to healthcare at no cost to taxpayers.
Stephen is continuing his commitment to serving the people of Missouri in his campaign for State Senate. He will fight to develop family-supporting jobs, educate the next generation of engineers, scientist, farmers, teachers, and technicians, and develop new industries in fields such as material science, agriculture, and nuclear medicine. Most importantly, he will continue to work with anyone who wants to make Mid-Missouri a great place to live.
